The Role

We are seeking an outstanding Assistant Headteacher to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will have expertise in at least two of the following areas:

  • Primary Curriculum (design and teaching)

  • Secondary Curriculum (design and teaching)

  • SEND, including SENDCo responsibilities

The postholder will be expected to:

  • Fulfil the responsibilities of a teacher

  • Mentor staff and hold them accountable

  • Contribute to the school development plan and/or lead whole school curriculum initiatives

  • Be ambitious for the learning outcomes of all learners across the school

About the Role

Pierview Academy is a small independent school supporting young people with special educational needs and challenging behaviour. We are seeking a dedicated Tutor to deliver engaging lessons to small groups of learners within our Foundation Learning curriculum, covering English, Maths, ICT, vocational learning, and personal and social development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver lessons that motivate and support learners’ progress.

  • Track and record learner achievement and behaviour.

  • Build positive relationships with learners, parents, and colleagues.

  • Guide Learning Support Assistants and promote a positive learning environment.

  • Uphold the school’s ethos of Attendance, Routine, Respect, Relationships, Trust, and Teaching (ARRRT).

About You

About the Role

ALP Pierview Academy is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will lead the teaching of learners who, for various reasons, do not access mainstream education and have single or multiple special educational needs (SEN).

You will deliver engaging, personalised lessons to learners one-to-one and in small groups, support other teachers, and contribute to tracking learner progress. The role may involve teaching across the school’s age range of 11–25 years.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to make a real difference to learners’ educational experiences while working in a supportive and inclusive environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver a personalised curriculum for SEN learners who have struggled in mainstream settings.

  • Work alongside the Senior Management Team to create schemes of work and resources suitable for SEN learners.

  • Support and line-manage teachers and staff working with SEN learners.

  • Lead small group work and coordinate Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants effectively.

  • Deliver subject-specialist lessons while also teaching a variety of subjects using SEN-specific strategies.

  • Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, providing feedback to colleagues, learners, and management.

  • Promote positive values, attitudes, and behaviour in pupils, supporting inclusion and engagement.

  • Contribute to the school’s ‘Communication Commitment’ initiative and wider educational development.


Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS)

  • Experience working with SEN learners, including social, emotional, and mental health difficulties

  • Knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and the SEND Code of Practice

  • Ability to plan and teach effectively using a variety of strategies

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with adults and children

  • Strong organisational, planning, and time-management skills

  • Empathetic, flexible, and committed to raising student achievement

Desirable

  • Experience leading or coordinating a team

  • Additional qualifications in SEN, speech, language, communication, or behaviour management

  • Experience teaching the national or functional skills curriculum

  • Knowledge of ICT to enhance learning and lesson delivery

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting learners with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities. Working both one-to-one and in small groups, you will help students engage positively in their learning and development.

You may work with secondary or Post-16 learners, helping them to build good attendance, positive relationships, and a supportive routine, while fostering trust and respect within the school environment. You will also contribute to teaching and learning throughout the school.
