About us

Pierview Academy is part of ALP Schools, a group of independent special schools for young people who have struggled in mainstream education. We’re rated Good by Ofsted, and we support secondary and post-16 learners with EHCPs, many of whom are autistic or have other special educational needs and challenging behaviour.

Our classes are small and our approach is built on routine, relationships, respect and trust. We’re growing, and this is a great time to join us.

The role

We’re looking for an English Lead to help our Senior Management Team lead English across the school. You’ll teach your own specialist subject, shape an English curriculum that works for pupils with diverse and complex SEND profiles, and support colleagues to deliver lessons that are accessible and engaging.

You’ll:

1. lead the planning and delivery of Functional Skills, IGCSE, Essential Skills and other English qualifications
2. monitor teaching and learning through learning walks, book looks and data reviews
3. oversee English assessment, including baselines, IEP targets and tracking small steps of progress
4. mentor LSAs and Assistant Teachers, and advise tutors on qualification queries
5. internally moderate learner portfolios
6. adapt schemes of work and resources for pupils with complex needs

What we’re looking for

1. Qualified Teacher Status and a degree
2. At least 3 years’ experience working in schools
3. Experience of working with young people with SEND, complex needs or challenging behaviour
4. A strong understanding of SEND and the SEND Code of Practice
5. A calm, flexible, can-do approach, and a genuine commitment to helping every learner succeed
6. NPQLT or NPQLTD would be a bonus

Pierview Academy provides continuity in learning for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans. We are a short, medium and long-term provision for learners on the autistic spectrum or who have other special educational needs and challenging behaviour. We cater for young people in their secondary and post-16 school years. The overarching purpose of our provision is to work with learners so that they are able to overcome the barriers to learning that they have previously encountered. We aim to offer flexible, structured and supportive needs-led approaches.

We are looking for an English / Literacy Teacher to join our team, an ideal role for an Early Career Teacher or a qualified teacher looking to expand their skills and experience. You’ll lead the teaching and learning of English to a small number of learners aged 11 upwards, bringing enthusiasm and a genuine passion for improving young people’s life chances. You’ll guide, direct and inspire a team of Tutors and LSAs working with both secondary and post-16 learners who have a range of special educational needs and disabilities, and contribute to the pastoral care of your form group, including liaison with parents and carers and tracking behaviour and interventions.

Working closely with the Assistant Head Teacher and Senior Management Team, you’ll play a key role in monitoring pupil progress, developing schemes of work, and creating a positive, engaging learning environment.

Role: Teaching Assistant (SEND)

Are you passionate about supporting learners with special educational needs? Pierview Academy is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team.

You will work with primary, secondary, or Post-16 learners, supporting them individually and in small groups. You’ll help students build good attendance, positive relationships, routines, trust, and respect, while contributing to their learning and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Support pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities in and out of lessons.
2. Encourage independent learning, study skills, motivation, and confidence.
3. Assist teachers in delivering lessons, preparing resources, and supervising practical tasks.
4. Support pupils with physical needs and help them record work appropriately.
5. Monitor pupil progress, provide feedback, and maintain records including IEPs, PHPs, and risk assessments.
6. Promote inclusion, positive behaviour, and a safe, supportive learning environment.

Requirements:

1. Experience working with children with SEN, complex needs, or challenging behaviour.
2. Understanding of SEND and statutory guidance.
3. Level 2 qualifications in English/literacy and maths/numeracy (or equivalent).
4. Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
5. Ability to establish relationships quickly with young people and families with complex needs.
6. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
